Large spacious traditional landmark pub founded in 1938. The pub's location, next to Hanworth Air Park, made it popular with RAF pilots during WWII. It was also a target for the German air force, the Luftwaffe during the war, and its car park was bombed during the Blitz.
Pub closed. July 2025: sign in window states "under new management".

Historic Interest
The Airman is a pleasing example of a mock-Tudor suburban building of the inter-war years. Its nicely moulded stone doorways, stone-framed windows and Tudor-arched Saloon Bar doorway (Hanworth Road front) contribute to the impression of a traditionally styled English domestic building. Built in the mid/late-1930's, its name remembers the nearby Hanworth/London Air Park - a well-known private flying field of the inter-war decades. It was also used by boxer Freddie Mills as a training base.
