The Palmerston is a friendly, locals' pub built in the traditional two-bar style which has now been opened up. It is tucked down a quiet street away from the town centre. It was redecorated in 2026 and has a paved beer garden to the rear with six heated booths and additional tables. There is also a raised seating area to the front of the pub. It opens at noon on Bank Holidays. The pub has a quiz night on a Wednesday and live music on a Friday. The current signage reflects a change from the old name 'Lord Palmerston' to the shorter name that has informally been used for many years. The new licensee has resumed the provision of cask ale, from February 2026. The cask ale price is already discounted on a Tuesday but CAMRA discounts are offered on real ale on other nights. Meals are not served but sausage rolls are usually available.
