Government confirms that pubs will be protected in England – CAMRA response

In response to the announcement that the Government will be putting forward legislation to remove Permitted Development Rights for all pubs in England as of the 23rd May, please find below comment from CAMRA’s National Chairman, Colin Valentine.

“We are delighted that Ministers listened to those campaigning for the removal of Permitted Development Rights and have ensured that this vital legislation is not overlooked in the run up to the General Election.

“CAMRA has always made it clear that this legislation could not be delayed and needed to be brought in as soon as possible, so it’s gratifying to see that the Minister was of a similar mind.

“It’s reassuring to know that all pubs in England will enjoy the enhanced protection from development and demolition this legislation gives them, and before the end of the month. It’s also heartening to see that as a result of the All Party Parliamentary Pub Group and CAMRA’s negotiations with major retailers, companies such as Sainsbury’s and Enterprise Inns (Ei) voluntarily pledged to adhere to the principles of the legislation even before it became law.”

The regulations, which were first laid on the 28th April, can now be viewed here:  http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2017/619/contents/made
