Once in a lifetime London Brewery Crawl and a chance to brew in a Hall!
Three London breweries are opening their doors to auction bidders at this year’s Great British Beer Festival at Olympia in celebration of London City of Beer.
Every session, you can bid for a place on a brewery trip to Sambrook's, Brew Wharf and Kernel. The trip should be one to remember. Taking place on Saturday 8th September, there will be a chance to look around these three breweries and a chance to meet the brewers and sample some of their delicious wares.
The trip starts at 11am at Sambrook's (nearest station is Clapham Junction) and a light lunch is provided. Established in 2008, Sambrook's was at the vanguard of the new breweries that have set up in London over the last few years and the brewery has gone from strength to strength, with their beers being found across London. This is a chance to see the recently expanded new brewery.
Then a short trip to London Bridge and into Brew Wharf (next door to Vinepolis) to see the small brewery at the back of the pub, where one of London's innovative brewers is. Brew Wharf was at the beginning of Britain's love of big flavoured American and now have moved on to other imported hops and each beer has a different recipe so visitors will be in for a treat.
The finale is walk away to a brewer that specialises in bottled beer. Kernel, which came into being in 2008, is based in Borough. It is another brewer that loves big flavours; strong IPAs and porters are the order of the day and promises to end the day on a high.
And this year's Brewer for a Day is equally enticing. The award winning, Thornbridge Brewery in Derbyshire is hosting the Brewer for the Day in their old brewery in Thornbridge Hall, which they set up in 2005 (they now have two breweries). Thornbridge Hall is a private stately home with a history back to the 12th Century and is set in 100 acres of parkland.
The house was owned by the Longsdon family for circa 700 years and since the late 1700’s, the house has been have enlarged and altered. There is a William Morris/Burne-Jones window and even a private railway station.
Particularly known for its strong Jaipur IPA, Thornbridge is offering the lucky winner overnight accommodation for two in Sheffield, transport to the brewery and a day's brewing including lunch. The auction will take place on the Thursday evening at this year's Great British Beer Festival.
