Yesterday was the first Parliamentary Question Session for the Coalition Government's Business, Innovation and Skills department. CAMRA's Parliamentary Campaigner of the Year Greg Mulholland MP lost no time in calling on the new Government to commit to take action to reform the beer tie next year if the industry failed to reform itself.
Greg said: "After vigorous lobbying, including by the all-party 'Save the pub' group, the last Government confirmed plans to relax the beer tie and to set a timetable to act if the industry did not reform itself. Can we get an assurance from the Minister that this Government will stick to that plan and timetable?"
Consumers Minister Ed Davey confirmed that the Government would indeed take action to reform the beer tie.
