CAMRA runner-up in food award

24 February 2009

CAMRA was runner up at the prestigious Good Housekeeping Food Awards in the category Favourite Food Hero held on Monday 23 February 2009.

CAMRA had been nominated for the Favourite Food Hero Awards by actress and food writer Jane Asher who said that she had been well aware of CAMRA's hard work for a long time and was a strong advocate for the organization amongst the other judges during their deliberations.

The Awards were hosted by chef Prue Leith who said "CAMRA has done fantastic work over the years, and with traditional pubs disappearing rapidly, there's no question that it has saved real ales from almost certain extinction."

CAMRA's Head of Marketing Louise Ashworth said "we were really surprised and excited to receive such strong support from Jane Asher and the other judges and to have been put forward for this award at Good Housekeeping magazine. It just shows that appreciation for real ale and support for pubs have a strong hold across many sections of society and that there is much genuine support for CAMRA's ideals. With a focus on natural ingredients and the traditional process of brewing, real ale is very much part of the real food revolution that is sweeping across the UK."

The 2009 Good Housekeeping Food Awards were held at the Courtrooms in Covent Garden in London. The category Favourite Food Hero was decided upon by the Good Houeskeeping's Expert Panel. For a full list of all the award winners please visit www.goodhousekeeping.co.uk
