Raffle 2010

CAMRA's 2010 raffle soon to launch!

The CAMRA raffle for 2010 is now running, and is being run to raise money for our 'Save Our Pubs' campaign. Pubs are closing at a rate of six a day and we need your help to fight this now!

Why are we running the campaign?

Well-run community pubs have been a vital element of British life for centuries, a place where people from all backgrounds living in the same area can get to know each other. CAMRA is proud to be backing community pubs and works hard every day to promote the interests of Britain's 15 million regular pub goers.

Devastatingly, despite our major efforts, thousands of pubs are under threat of closure or demolition.

Challenges facing our pubs...
  • Lack of investment in local community pubs continues to threaten their survival and, shockingly, pubs are closing at a rate of six per day.
  • Existing planning law gives little protection to communities who want to keep their local pubs open. In England and Wales, planning permission is not currently required to demolish a freestanding pub unless it is listed.
  • The price of a pint of ale is being forced up because big pub firms often fail to pass on discounts to their tied licensees. Tied licensees can only buy a limited range of beer, at prices which are inflated by around 40%. This results in a reduction of consumer amenities in pubs and an increasing rate of pub closures
  • Since 2008 beer duty has risen by an eye-watering 26%, piling on the misery for Britain's hard-pressed pubs. This rise means that the cost of VAT and duty account for a third of every pint bought.
Enough is enough, which is why we are calling for your help.

CAMRA needs to raise campaigning funds to enable us to continue our work to save pubs. Past donations have enabled us to:
  • secure £3 million of Government funding to support community owned pubs and £1 million to provide business support for pubs wishing to diversify
  • run Local Pub Week events to encourage people to support their local pubs
  • run a LocAle scheme promoting pubs which sell locally brewed beers
  • lobby Government to deliver a wide range of changes to support pubs
The proceeds of this lottery will be spent on promotional material which is provided to pubs free of charge; lobbying Government in London, Edinburgh and Cardiff and supporting communities in saving local pubs which are under threat.
