Coors Visitor Centre set to close

19 March 2008

The UK's major brewery museum is to close. Coors, the US brewer who took over the brewing assets of Bass a few years ago, has announced that the Coors Visitors Centre, formerly the Bass Brewery Museum, will close in June. Coors reckons that the centre costs them £1m a year to run. The closure will mean that the Museum, The Brewery Tap, the Gift shop and all meetings rooms will close. But the White Shield micro-brewery will remain open to produce the classic bottle conditioned beer of the same name.

“The loss of the Centre, which was the closest thing that the UK has to a national brewery museum, would be a disaster” said CAMRA Research and Information Manager Iain Loe “Hopefully a way forward can be found to ensure the continued existence of this monument to Burton's brewing heritage.”
