Information for Parish Councillors

Are you a Parish Councillor and want to get involved in a campaign to save your local pub?

Campaigning for local pubs in your area means you are taking action to actively improve your local community.

Pubs are at the heart of our communities and are central to Britain's way of life. They provide a safe environment for residents to enjoy a pint and engage with likeminded people, raise thousands of pounds for charity every year, and are filling the gaps to provide much needed public services including post offices, libraries and local shops.

Still not convinced? Pubs are also good for your wellbeing. New research from Oxford University has revealed that people who enjoy a pint in a local are significantly happier, have more friends, better life satisfaction and are less likely to drink in excess.

Here are some ideas for getting started with your campaign:

  1. Contact your local CAMRA Branch
  2.  Introduce a Neighbourhood Plan with a pub protection policy

If you require any further information, please contact CAMRA's Chair of Pub Campaigns, Paul Ainsworth at paul.ainsworth@camra.org.uk or call him on 01226 217195

CAMRA has teamed up with NALC to encourage Parish Councils to nominate pubs as ACVs.
