About the Award

The National Cider & Perry Pub of the Year recognises the best pub or club that promotes and encourages the sale of quality real cider and perry across the country.

There are four stages to the competition and the winner is normally announced in October as part of CAMRA’s October Cider & Perry Month.

Take part in Cider Month!

Cider Month is celebrated in both May and October

Unlike real ale production, which can happen at any time of the year, real cider and perry can only be made when the fruit is ripe and is tied to a natural cycle of the apple and pear trees found in orchards around the country. May was chosen because it is when the orchards come into bloom and fruit begins to set which will then be harvested. October is a very active time for cider makers when production is in full flow and most cider producers are harvesting the fruit.

Tom Cobley Tavern, Spreyton

Tom Cobley Tavern in Spreyton, Devon has won CAMRA’s National Cider & Perry Pub of the Year Award 2023!

Featuring around 25 real ciders and perries, the 16th century pub is a worthy winner, attracting visitors from far and wide. On the edge of Dartmoor, this family run pub is no stranger to CAMRA accolades including National Pub of the Year award in 2006 and a finalist in 2012.

Judges commended the pub’s passion and knowledge for ensuring quality cider and perry is always served with a warm welcome. The dedication of all involved to ensure the pub was a pleasure to visit was clear to see.
