CAMRA hosts its annual Scottish Parliament Reception

On Tuesday 28th June CAMRA once again invited Members of the Scottish Parliament, CAMRA volunteers and industry representatives to Holyrood for its annual reception.

The event, hosted by Patrick Harvie MSP, attracted over 25 MSPs and included speeches from Scottish Regional Director Ray Turpie and CAMRA Chief Executive Tim Page.

Attendees were able to discuss issues directly affecting beer drinkers and pub-goers in Scotland, as well as being able to enjoy a selection of ales from Scottish breweries.

Campaign issues discussed included reforming the pubco model in Scotland to ensure that licensees tied to large pub companies are no worse off than those who are free of tie, reviewing the impact that the new drink driving policy has had on pubs, and securing greater Government support for Scottish pubs and brewers.

The idea of launching a Parliamentary Beer and Pub Group to discuss these issues was floated and received a great deal of interest from many attending MSPs.

The following real ales were available for guests to sample on the night, all brewed in Scotland:

  • Ayr Brewing Company - Rabbie's Porter, 4.3%
  • Lawman Brewing Company - Mr Beast, 5%
  • Stewart Brewing - Jack Black, 4%
