CAMRA campaigns in Wales

CAMRA has been campaigning for over 40 years in Wales for quality real ale, community pubs and the rights of pub-goers and real ale drinkers.

Wales has:

  • 4,200 CAMRA members
  • 3,400 pubs
  • 90 Real Ale breweries

Beer and pubs are close to the hearts of many voters in Wales. Following CAMRA's election campaign, 100 candidates supported our Manifesto for Wales, 24 of whom were elected into the Assembly.

Our key asks for the new Welsh Assembly are as follows:

  1. To protect valued community pubs by introducing an "Assets of Community Value" (ACV) scheme
  2. To protect pubs under the planning system so that planning permission is always required before a pub can be converted to another use or demolished
  3. To extend Rural Rate Relief to support more pubs
  4. To lobby the Westminster Government to retain Small Breweries Relief
  5. To promote the availability of grants and loans for small brewers
  6. To promote Welsh beer products, such as by raising the profile of barley production in Wales
